Cambridge United are pleased to announce that Adam Barrett has been appointed Assistant Head Coach..
As a player, Barrett is best known for his time with Southend United, whom he represented 351 times across two spells, winning three promotions.
After hanging up his boots in 2017, he joined Millwall’s coaching staff under current U’s boss, Neil Harris.
Whilst with the Lions, he was part of Harris’ staff that led them to League One promotion and twice stepped into the caretaker manager role during his seven-and-a-half year spell with the Club.
He now joins the U’s following his departure from Millwall in December 2024.
“I am absolutely delighted to be here and can’t wait to get started,” Adam Barrett said. “It’s a Club that wants to push on and move forward and that is reflected in the conversations I have had with Neil and Mark.
“I want to be part of the journey. I think I can come in and really help and it’s an exciting new challenge for myself.”
Neil Harris added, “I am delighted to welcome Adam to Cambridge United. He is somebody I have known as a work colleague, assistant head coach and a competitor on the football pitch over many seasons.
“I believe we have brought in the highest calibre candidate and personality to support me and the current staff. He is a man with huge integrity, vast coaching experience and a real drive to develop player and win football matches.”

“His strong working relationship with Neil over multiple seasons will ensure chemistry in the backroom team which we believe will be a major asset in creating a cohesive coaching unit.

Adam will officially begin work on Monday 23 June as the squad returns to pre-season training.
