Cambridge United are pleased to announce the signing of Ben Knight on a free transfer, subject to international clearance...

The 22-year-old attacker joins following a successful trial period with the Club, in which he trained with the First Team squad over the final few weeks of the 2024/25 season.

Born in Cambridge, Knight began his youth career with nearby Burwell Tigers, before signing for Ipswich Town’s Academy.

After eight years with the Tractorboys, he signed for Man City as a scholar. A professional contract followed – as did a debut appearance in the 2021 Community Shield – before leaving the Club in 2024.

A brief spell at Real Murcia followed, and he now signs with the U’s on a one-year deal.

“I am really happy,” Ben said. “Although it’s been a difficult period recently for me, I can’t say enough about how well the Club have looked after me and I am determined to repay them now with my performances on the pitch.”

“It is close to home and I have needed to enjoy my football again - I can’t wait to get started.”

Neil Harris added, “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Ben Knight to Cambridge United.

“He is a player that has trained with us at the end of last season as he was a local lad who just wants to play football with a smile on his face again.

“He has undoubted talent, ability and is extremely creative. He can play in various attacking positions for us and is a player I am really looking forward to working with.”

Knight will join up with his new teammates when pre-season begins on Monday 23 June.
